Gas prices could soar by Memorial Day
January 24, 2012
ATLANTA -- The price of regular unleaded gasoline in Atlanta could reach as high as $4.60 per gallon by Memorial Day, according to GasBuddy.com.
The site predicts costs in the coming months in 250 locations across the U.S. and Canada.
But Wes Moss, Chief Investment Strategist at Capitol Investment Advisors, told 11Alive News that he expects "demand destruction" will keep prices from going too high.
"Oil prices and gasoline prices have what's called demand destruction," Moss said. "You get above $4 per gallon of gas, and people figure out how to use less. So, there's almost a self-correcting mechanism when it comes to oil and gasoline."
"If we go above $4 for gas, demand goes down and prices follow," he added. "Unfortunately, it will probably be because the economy has slowed down
Moss said he wouldn't be surprised by a more moderate price hike.
Committee Failure Could Affect Payroll Tax
November 23, 2011
ATLANTA - The failure of the Congressional debt-reduction super committee could affect millions of paychecks next year.
The payroll tax cut was one of the issues left undecided by latest deadlock in Washington.
President Barack Obama was in New Hampshire Tuesday, calling for Congress to extend and expand payroll tax cuts.
Without action, the 2 percent payroll tax cut expires in December. Last year, it provided an average tax break of $934 for 121 million families at a cost to the government of $120 billion.
Wes Moss, a certified financial planner with Capital Investment Advisors in Atlanta, says the impact of higher payroll taxes would be felt throughout the economy, with lower spending and sales likely leading to fewer jobs and other problems.
Metro Gas Prices Near $3
September 29, 2011
Gas prices in metro Atlanta continue to fall, and fierce competition is driving prices even lower, said consumer investigator Jim Strickland.
"A tankful used to cost almost $60, and today it looks like it'll be $40," said Renee Christian.
Christian was one of a myriad of drivers lined up at a Kroger on Cobb Parkway in Acworth. The posted price of $3.15 is 15 cents below the AAA city average. The Kroger price was matched by two nearby QuikTrips and even a locally owned Sunoco station.
"A person that comes in once, they like how you treat them. They like the prices, and then they just keep coming," said Sunoco station manager Matt Enriquez.

Wes Moss: Relief coming at gas pump
May 18, 2011
The guy that changes the price signs at gas stations finally gets to do something he hasn't done for a while -- grab smaller numbers.
Gas prices are starting to trickle away from $4 per gallon. AAA says the average price in Georgia is now at $3.92, while its $3.98 in Atlanta.
WSB Money Matters host Wes Moss says that drop should continue. "It is real, it is real," says Moss. "We could see $3.5 a gallon by the middle of the summer."
Oil prices have dropped 16 percent since May.
However, weather, world events and speculators have prevented those savings from moving to the gas pump.
Experts say gas prices could fall quickly
May 17, 2011
NORCROSS, GA -- Relief is on the way for metro Atlanta drivers still stuck paying a premium for regular gas. Channel 2 Action News has learned gas prices should soon be dropping. That's good news for drivers like Brent Dickinson, who said he feels like he just got mugged every time he fills up his SUV.
"Oh my God," Dickenson exclaimed. "It's a hundred dollars every time you fill it up." Dickenson has been sucking up soaring gas prices for weeks.
"The cost of gas really does affect the way we spend our money," Dickenson said. Thirty seconds after he drove off from a Shell Station on Peachtree Parkway in Norcross, Channel 2's Aaron Diamant watched the clerk do something he hasn't done in weeks -- lower the price.
"It is real," said oil industry investment strategist Wes Moss.
Gas prices projected to drop in June
May 12, 2011
ATLANTA -- The price of gasoline has stayed persistently high -- despite sharp drops in crude oil prices this month. That led analyst Wes Moss to predict a drop in gasoline prices.
"By forty to sixty cents, if oil prices stay in the $98 (range) per barrel of oil," said Moss, chief investment strategist with Capital Investment Advisors of Sandy Springs.
