Dad With Alzheimers Doesn’t Recognize His Son But ‘Comes Back’ When They Sing Together

Mac McDermott’s father’s memory has deteriorated over the last few years because of his Alzheimers. But music seems to bring his memory back, if only for a moment and Mac treasures these moments.

Mac is raising money to fund the Alzheimer’s Society which he has received much help from ever since his father’s illness began.

Mac explained his father’s connection with music on his fundraising page, “Dad was a singer throughout his life – he was a Butlin’s Redcoat and then travelled around singing in clubs around the country. He worked in a factory when he got married and did the occasional  bit of singing on the side. His nickname is The Songaminute Man – simply because of how many songs he knows.”

So many people are affected by this horrible illness but it’s great to see that these two are still able to connect in such a special way.
