Falling truck crushes patrol car in dangerous high winds

From hurricanes to tornados to snowstorms, Mother Nature can sometimes be ferocious. While weather conditions are often caught on camera by local news stations and cellphone cameras, a truly wild video showing just how dangerous extreme weather is about to break the internet.

This dramatic video captured the moment strong winds caused a semi-truck driving down a US highway to tip over onto a patrol car parked on the side of the highway. The crash happened last week near Elk Mountain, Wyoming.

At the time, the wind was gusting at up to 90 miles an hour. The force of the gales toppled the trailer over, in turn dragging the rig and container onto the patrol car.  Luckily, the Wyoming Highway Patrol cruiser wasn’t occupied.

A police dash camera video in a nearby patrol car captured the entire event. At the time of the accident, three troopers were responding to assist drivers who were involved in other crashes along the highway.

Interstate 80 was closed at the time to lightweight and high-profile vehicles due to the extreme weather. The driver of the semi-trailer ignored posted warnings but was traveling at a reduced speed of about 30 to 35 miles per hour when it was blown over. No one was injured, but the police cruiser is presumed totaled.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol released the video in hopes that people get the message: heed extreme weather advisories. Whether rain, sleet, snow, or wind, it’s better to be safe than sorry. You never know whose life you may be putting in danger – including your own.
