After learning their teacher made the difficult decision to stop cancer treatment, hundreds of students went to his home to sing. The teacher, Ben Ellis, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer late last year and recently has decided to stop treatment. He teaches Latin at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville.
Students at the school learned last week about the teacher’s decision and dropped everything to show support for their beloved teacher. Faculty and staff also joined in filling up buses to go to the teacher’s home.
“This was a spur of the moment decision to go,” Leslie Ponder, a teacher at Christ Presbyterian Academy, wrote on Facebook. ” Students were in the middle of class, some taking quizzes and tests, and dropped everything for a bigger lesson on life, love, community, compassion.”
The video was viral after it was shared by country singer Tim McGraw on Facebook. Since posting it on Saturday, the video has been viewed more than 23 million times.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” McGraw wrote on Facebook.
