While Kid Rock is best known for his heavy rock-and-roll hits and bad boy façade, there’s more to the Michigan native than meets the media eye. Did you know, for example, that he is a resolute supporter of the United States military?
Kid Rock is heavily involved with Operation Homefront, which provides financial assistance to soldiers, the families they leave behind when deployed, and wounded warriors. And the musician’s involvement and support of our nation’s troops doesn’t stop there. Over the years, he has performed on numerous occasions for service men and women overseas. Rock’s tours for our troops have taken him to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Kosovo.
Recently, Rock worked in collaboration with Nova Scotia rock band “The Trews” to create an emotional tribute to our military, called “Highway of Heroes.”
Sung from the point of view of a fallen soldier being brought home after being killed in the war, this song is bound to give you chills. Although the song’s narrator has passed away, he doesn’t want his family and friends to try to justify his death.
After sharing the video on his Facebook page, Rock penned a caption urging folks not to wait for a military-themed holiday to thank service men and women. Instead, he wrote, take some time today to share your gratitude with a veteran or service member. What an important message for all of us to remember.
Watch the lyric video for “Highway of Heroes” below, and don’t be surprised if the message and harmonies move you to tears.
