You don’t have to be Jay Leno to appreciate one-of-a-kind cars. Pinterest is littered with images of custom car, truck, and SUV beauties. For more serious gawkers, there are ads on Craigslist selling cars, motorcycles, and even lawnmowers featuring amateur builders’ customizations. Most cities have numerous brick-and-mortar custom shops that take pride in pimping your ride.
But the custom car craze may have jumped the shark…
Newport Convertible Engineering just unveiled a drop-top Ford F-150 pick-up truck. If you’ve ever wanted to feel the wind in your hair while hauling a load back from Lowe’s, this is the vehicle for you. Newport’s redneck ragtop has a power-folding convertible canvas top and a roll bar to provide some structural rigidity.
Newport hasn’t listed a sale price, which sends the message that if you have to ask, then you probably can’t afford it. If you’re worried that the convertible conversion may not be up to snuff, remember that this is the same company that brought the convertible Tesla Model S, Range Rover, Porsche Cayenne, Cadillac ELR, and Nissan GT-R, to name a few.
The result? Eh. Like it or not, most four-door convertibles look awkward when the top is up. The custom F-150 this is no exception to this rule. Check out the video to see the convertible top in action, along with close ups of the truck’s details.
