Robert Downey, Jr. Singing A Duet With Sting Will Make Your Day

There’s a great scene in The Avengers when Captain American says to Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey, Jr., “Take that [Ironman suit] off and what are you?”

Stark replies, “Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.”

We can add “singer” to that list, thanks to some recently-surfaced video of Downey’s jaw-dropping performance with no less a rock star than Sting!  Downey’s musical coming out happened at a 2011 concert marking Sting’s 60th birthday.  The two sang “Driven to Tears,” which was released back in 1980 when Sting was with The Police.

Downey was reportedly nervous about singing with an icon like Sting.  Who wouldn’t be?   But he truly rocks the house with a voice that reminds me of the late Robert Palmer.

I think it’s really cool when someone we think we know well flashes a previously unknown talent.  It can totally change your perception of that person. What passion of yours would surprise your colleagues, neighbors or friends?

By the way, maybe they should consider making the next Avengers movie a musical.  Has anyone heard Scarlett Johansson sing?
