There’s A New Dog Breed In Town And It Looks Like A Teddy Bear

There’s a new contender for the title of Cutest Dog Ever.

The Pumi, or Hungarian Herding Terrier, is the hot new thing on the canine pet scene. And it’s easy to see why! Pumis are flat-out adorable with their fuzzy faces, curly coats and pointed ears.

While this mid-sized breed has been common in Eastern Europe for centuries, it’s only recently made a splash here in the U.S. The Pumi was recognized earlier this year by the American Kennel Club as the group’s 190th official dog breed.

Pumis are mid-sized, averaging about 17 inches in height and 20 lbs.-30 lbs. in weight. Despite their original name, Pumis are not terriers. But they do have many terrier qualities, including high energy and excellent watchdog skills. A Pumi will be crazy loyal to the family, but might be standoffish to your visitors and guests.

Interested? Start saving your money. Pumis are still a rare breed in this country and often sell for $2,000 or more. Look, I’m a dog guy, so I understand falling in love with a particular animal. But I’m also a money guy, so I just gotta say, wow, that’s a lot of money for cuteness!

There is any number of super-cute pure breeds that you can love on a budget. And, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how much joy mix-breed rescue dogs bring to their owners’ lives. So, leave the Pumis to Hollywood celebs, bond with an equally adorable mutt, and bank what you save for your retirement – and maybe get some nice treats for your new pound puppy, too.
