Let’s all raise a toast to our military veterans – and support them in the process.
G. Yuengling & Sons, Inc., maker of Yuengling beer, has launched a multi-year commitment to support the Veterans of Foreign Wars as a thank-you to those who have served and sacrificed. The first initiative in that campaign is #LagerForHeroes, a text and social media fundraising effort that Yuengling will promote in bars, restaurants and stores. The public can make a $10 contribution to the VFW simply by texting the word “Hero” to 90999 from now until July 4th. No beer drinking necessary. Sigh.
The VFW will use the proceeds to fund its scholarship, financial aid, employment services and other programs for veterans.
Dick Yuengling, the fifth-generation owner of the brewery, says the company was inspired by personal experience to help vets: “As a family with multiple generations of servicemen dating back to the European theater of World War II, we know the toll it takes to leave your family to protect and serve our great country. This is our way to support those who give so much.”
I’ve always been a fan of Yuengling, which is brewed in my home state of Pennsylvania. This is one more thing to love about a great beer.
